A bit more detail:
Started at Latin American Club, asked short-haired Jill what her favorite drink was — she morosely told us she didn’t have one. Bummer. Luckily we kept going despite the negative nanciness and asked her for her favorite bar: twas The Phone Booth.*
At the Phone Booth we talked to Richard, who was a lot friendlier (perhaps it was the 15+ drinks we were buying…?) and said his favorite bar used to be the El Rio but was currently Mission Bar. He also said his favorite drink was a shot and a beer.
After some rocking tunes and shots & beer, we went to Mission Bar where the bartender’s favorite drink was tequila straight. Charming.
Bartender’s bar recommendation? The Saloon, oldest bar in the city. Guess that means next time we’ll be starting Fun Thing in North Beach…
*At first, I wrote the Phone Book. Sounds considerably less fun…
